Join us for a very special Christmas Textile Workshop. Ideal for those special Christmas gifts and cards. Suitable for those fairly new to stitch and those with more experience. Date: Tuesday 10th December Time: 10:00 am to 3:00 pm We provide tea, coffee, biscuits and mince pies, but please bring a packed lunch. About Dorothy’s workshop A fun and festive day with lots of delicious materials to play with. Sudbury silk brocade and velvet, vintage lace and nuno felted pieces are arranged to create a collage which is then embellished with hand stitch. For example chain stitch, french and bullion knots, herringbone and trellis stitch. Beads and trinkets can be added. All processes and stitches will be demonstrated and there will be lots of samples for inspiration. The finished piece can be wired and backed before mounting in a vintage bobbin or if preferred the composition can be made into an extra special Christmas card. The following materials will be provided for you: Very firm iron on interfacing Silk brocade and silk velvet Vintage lace A range of hand embroidery threads including satin and metallic Beads and trinkets Wire Felt for backing Fine ribbon Blank cards for mounting Wooden bobbins You need to bring: - Fabric and thread cutting scissors - Crewel needles medium size and smaller for beading but don’t worry if this is difficult I will have a selection - If you have beads and or trinkets you would like to include please bring along - Also if you have wooden bobbins feel free to bring These items can be sourced from specialist stockists such as Lingards in Sudbury or various online sources. This workshop is an introduction to a new and exciting medium, which hopefully will inspire you to explore the further possibilities at home. What to wear Comfortable clothing that you would not mind getting paint on or an apron. Access Please note that this workshop is held in the upper gallery, which unfortunately is not accessible for wheelchair users. We apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding. Cancellation Policy
Places on our courses will be allocated on a first come, first served basis once payment has been received. Completing the application form without also making payment does not reserve a place on the course. All applicants must pay after submitting their form to guarantee a place on their chosen course. Refunds and Cancellations Cancellations are permitted up to one week before the start of a course, subject to a £25 cancellation fee. Refunds will not be made for cancellations less than 72 hours before the start of a course. Students who do not attend due to illness, personal or professional commitments do not have the right to a refund. Access The workshop takes place in the upper gallery which is not suitable for wheel chair access. Please notify the Gallery if participants have physical disabilities or special learning needs. The use of mobile telephones, radios, personal stereos is not allowed. Please take care of your belongings at all times and never leave valuables unattended. We regret that we cannot be held responsible for the loss of participants’ belongings. Participants must make sure that they take all work and belongings away at the end of the class.
