Creative Portraiture Workshop with Jackie Mellor from JustJaq Photography Thursday 27th October 2022 10.00am - 4.00pm What to bring: Your Digital SLR or mirrorless camera fully charged Your camera manual A tripod An empty memory card A laptop to view your photographs and a card reader or lead to upload your images (If you have one) A packed lunch. What to wear: Comfortable clothing, walking shoes a waterproof jacket Number of Participants limited to 6 Have you ever wondered what subjects would be great to work with to create a collection of creative portraits? Are you looking for some new ideas and the chance to put them into practice? Or perhaps you love taking photos of your friends and family but would like to surprise them with some creative, ideas, concepts and techniques. This workshop with Jackie will introduce you to some inspirational images by leading photographers and help you to explore some of the theories and techniques that they use to create dramatic and engaging images. You will then get the chance to put theory into practice and create your own portraits in a live shoot. This course is focused on helping you to: • Consider what makes a great portrait • Consider how you see your subject and the world around you through fresh eyes • Consider characters, contexts and locations that help to tell the story of your character • Use lenses and camera settings to create images you don’t see with your naked eye • Learn to bring out emotions and expressions in your subject by the way that you communicate with them • Use ‘Super Feel’ methods, with your subject to capture expressions from ‘laugh-out- loud’ to ‘warm and fuzzy’ and ‘deep and meaningful’ • Explore using flash and natural lighting to add to your subjects back story as well as add drama and atmosphere Who is the class for? • Photographers that have already attended Jackie’s Introduction to Photography workshops • Photographers who would like to explore the subject of portraiture • Experienced photographers who would like a refresher You will be invited to practice what you have learnt and share your work after the session within the Mill Tye Shoot and Share Facebook photography group where you will meet like-minded people and receive further encouragement, inspiration and support with your photography.

Cancellation Policy

Places on our courses will be allocated on a first come, first served basis once payment has been received. Completing the application form without also making payment does not reserve a place on the course. All applicants must pay after submitting their form to guarantee a place on their chosen course. Refunds and Cancellations Cancellations are permitted up to one week before the start of a course, subject to a £25 cancellation fee. Refunds will not be made for cancellations less than 72 hours before the start of a course. Students who do not attend due to illness, personal or professional commitments do not have the right to a refund. Access The workshop takes place in the upper gallery which is not suitable for wheel chair access. Please notify the Gallery if participants have physical disabilities or special learning needs. Tell us about your needs in confidence by or by phone 01787 376796. Safety Aerosol fixative sprays and smoking are not permitted in the building. The use of mobile telephones, radios, personal stereos is not allowed. Please take care of your belongings at all times and never leave valuables unattended. We regret that we cannot be held responsible for the loss of participants’ belongings. Participants must make sure that they take all work and belongings away at the end of the class.
