Introduction to Flash Photography Thursday 13th October 2022 10.00am - 4.00pm What to bring: Your Digital SLR or mirrorless camera fully charged Your camera manual Your flash with fully charged or new batteries A tripod An empty memory card A packed lunch Number of Participants limited to 6 Workshop Description Feel confident with flash basics, familiarise yourself with flash equipment and apply on and off camera flash techniques. Working in the relaxing and calming setting of the Mill Tye Gallery, you will be able to explore how your flash works and how to use it creatively. You will have the opportunity to experiment with off camera flash techniques, bounce and direct light, using variety of flash modifiers and learn how to light a model using flash setups such as Butterfly, Loop, Rembrandt and Short lighting to create dramatic portraits. Further Information: The morning will be spent working with Jackie to familiarise yourself with flash basics, and experiment with simple modifiers that can help you explore different qualities of flash light. During the afternoon you will explore off camera techniques and work with a model to see the effect of different flash lighting setups. At the end of the day, you will be able to review your work and be invited to join the Mill Tye Shoot and Share Facebook group, where you can share your photos with like-minded people and continue to get feedback and inspiration for your photography. This course is focused on helping you to: • Navigate your way around your flash • Become familiar with your flash settings, such as ETTL, Manual, Multi, Hi Speed Sync and Second Curtain Sync / Rear Curtain Sync and what they mean • Feel confident in setting your camera up to synchronise with your flash • Understand the difference between direct flash and bounced flash • Learn to balance your flash light with ambient light • Understand how modifiers can change the quality of flash light • Familiarise yourself with how to use your flash off of your camera • Light a model with Butterfly, Loop, Rembrandt and Short lighting setups • Share your interest with like-minded people. Who is the class for? • Photographers that have already attended Jackie’s Introduction to Photography workshops • Photographers who would like to learn to use flash • Photographers with a basic understanding of flash who would like to experiment with different techniques and set ups and who would like a refresher.

Cancellation Policy

Places on our courses will be allocated on a first come, first served basis once payment has been received. Completing the application form without also making payment does not reserve a place on the course. All applicants must pay after submitting their form to guarantee a place on their chosen course. Refunds and Cancellations Cancellations are permitted up to one week before the start of a course, subject to a £25 cancellation fee. Refunds will not be made for cancellations less than 72 hours before the start of a course. Students who do not attend due to illness, personal or professional commitments do not have the right to a refund. Access The workshop takes place in the upper gallery which is not suitable for wheel chair access. Please notify the Gallery if participants have physical disabilities or special learning needs. The use of mobile telephones, radios, personal stereos is not allowed. Please take care of your belongings at all times and never leave valuables unattended. We regret that we cannot be held responsible for the loss of participants’ belongings. Participants must make sure that they take all work and belongings away at the end of the class.
