Portrait Drawing and Painting Course with Chris Bennett R.O.I. Discover the art of portraiture with renowned artist Chris Bennett, a long-standing member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. Over three evenings, Chris will guide you in capturing the essence of the human face, working from a live model in the inspiring art studio at Mill Tye Gallery. This workshop is designed to alleviate the pressure of “getting it right” and instead embrace an approach that fosters creativity and confidence—often the key to achieving a true likeness. "It's no harder or easier than painting an apple ..." — Chris Bennett Workshop Details - Dates: • Tuesday 13th May • Thursday 15th May • Tuesday 20th May 2025 Time: 6:30 PM – 9:00 PM (Evening Art Classes)
 Duration: Approximately 2.5 hours per session
 Price: £140 per person (covers a total of three classes) 
Minimum Age: 18 What to Expect Each evening begins with a short introduction where Chris explains the evening’s objectives and offers demonstrations or individual guidance. You’ll have the choice to start a new portrait or build on work from the previous session. The session includes: • Two 50-minute sittings with the model • A 20-minute break for refreshments Format:
 Work in your preferred medium—drawing or painting. Whether you're just starting or refining your technique, Chris offers tailored advice to support your progress. What to Bring Those attending will need to bring the following materials. For Drawing: • Drawing board • Paper (A3 or A2 Drawing Pad) • Pencil or charcoal and a rubber. • Portable easel (optional) For Painting: • Canvas or panel • Paints (oil, acrylic, or watercolour) • Brushes • Palette • Turps/white spirit & container (or water container for acrylics/watercolours) • Rag or paper towels • Portable easel Additional Information • Refreshments: Tea, coffee, cakes and biscuits provided. • What to wear: Comfortable clothing that can get messy. • Access: The studio is on the upper floor and is not wheelchair accessible. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience. Spaces are limited, so book early to secure your place! About Chris Bennett Chris Bennett was born in London in 1957 and studied at the Slade School of Fine Art under notable tutors including Euan Euglow, Geoffrey Camp, and Philip Sutton. His work has been featured at prestigious venues such as the Royal Academy and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. Chris has also exhibited internationally.

Cancellation Policy Course Bookings: • Places on our courses are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis upon receipt of payment. • Submitting an application form without payment does not reserve a place on the course. • To guarantee a place, all applicants must pay in full after submitting their form. Refunds and Cancellations: • Cancellations up to 7 days before the course start date: Participants may cancel and receive a refund, subject to a £25 cancellation fee. • Cancellations within 72 hours of the course start date: Refunds will not be issued. • Non-attendance: No refunds will be provided for students who do not attend due to illness, personal commitments, or professional obligations. Course Changes or Cancellations by Mill Tye Gallery: • Mill Tye Gallery reserves the right to cancel or amend courses due to unforeseen circumstances. In such cases, participants will be offered an alternative date or a full refund. Access: • Workshops take place in the upper gallery, which is not wheelchair accessible. • If you have any physical disabilities or special learning needs, please notify us in advance by emailing milltye@icloud.com or calling 01787 376796, and we will do our best to accommodate you. Safety: • Prohibited items: Aerosol fixative sprays, smoking, mobile phones, radios, and personal stereos are not permitted during workshops. • Personal belongings: Participants are responsible for their belongings at all times. The gallery cannot accept liability for loss or damage to personal items. • Participants must take all work and belongings with them at the end of the class.
