Service Description
Discover the Power of Pastel Portraiture with Chris Bennett, R.O.I. Date: Tuesday 26th May 2026 Time: 6:30pm to 9pm (Evening Session) Price: £42 per person (Tutored workshop – includes model, Lucy Perry) Explore a fresh and accessible approach to portraiture in this inspiring pastel workshop with artist Chris Bennett, R.O.I. Building on the foundations of his popular Portrait and Figure Drawing sessions, Chris introduces a vibrant yet approachable way of working that combines the familiarity of drawing with the expressive possibilities of colour. Pastels offer a wonderfully direct and tactile medium — perfect for those who enjoy drawing but are curious about introducing colour into their work. In this hands-on session, Chris will guide you through capturing likeness, structure and tone, while gradually building colour using a simple, limited palette. This approach not only makes pastel work more accessible, but also encourages confident mark-making and a strong understanding of form. Whether you're new to pastels or looking to expand your artistic practice, this workshop offers a relaxed and supportive environment to develop your skills and discover new creative possibilities. What to bring: You are welcome to bring a full set of pastels if you have one, but it’s absolutely not essential. A simple starting palette of just four colours will work beautifully: • Red Ochre • Yellow Ochre • Black • White Ordinary white cartridge paper is perfectly suitable — there’s no need for specialist pastel paper. You may also wish to bring a few pencils (2B–6B) and a rubber for initial sketching. What’s provided: Light refreshments, including tea, coffee, cakes and biscuits — enjoy a relaxed, friendly atmosphere as you work. What to wear: Comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely (pastels can be a little dusty, so bear this in mind). Accessibility: Please note that the workshop takes place in our upper gallery, which unfortunately is not accessible for wheelchair users. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding. Booking Information: Spaces are limited, so early booking is highly recommended to secure your place.
