our story
Mill Tye Gallery began with a simple idea: that contemporary art should be welcoming, accessible and rooted in its local community.
Founded by Peter Rumsey in 2017, the gallery grew from a successful pop-up exhibition celebrating the work of local printmakers. What was intended as a temporary showcase quickly revealed a real appetite for contemporary art in Sudbury, and within months the gallery became a permanent home for artists, makers and creative practitioners from across the region.
Drawing on more than thirty years of experience in the creative industries, Peter established Mill Tye Gallery not simply as a place to exhibit art, but as a space where artists could thrive and where visitors could engage directly with creativity.
Today the gallery has grown into a vibrant arts centre. Alongside a year-round programme of exhibitions, we host artist residencies, creative workshops, educational projects and community partnerships that encourage people of all ages to experience, make and enjoy art.
Our mission remains the same as it was from the beginning: to champion exceptional artists, nurture emerging talent and make creativity accessible to everyone who walks through our doors.
