Service Description
Paper Weaving Workshop A Weaving Workshop with Helena Powell Learning the fundamentals of weaving through paper and colour Date: Tuesday 11th August 2026 Time: 10:00am – 3:00pm Price: £60 per person A hands-on introduction to weaving through paper, colour and structure. This workshop explores the fundamentals of weaving using hand-painted and water coloured papers as an accessible and expressive material. Participants will be introduced to core weaving concepts and terminology — including warp and weft, plain weave and simple structural variations — while developing an understanding of how woven patterns are constructed. Through guided exercises, participants will design patterns on grid paper and translate these into woven samples, exploring colour relationships, rhythm and surface design. The process offers insight into traditional textile structures and ways of thinking, without the need for prior weaving experience or specialist equipment. Ideal for those interested in textiles, weaving or surface pattern, this workshop provides a thoughtful and practical starting point for further exploration. No previous textile experience is required — just curiosity and a willingness to experiment. Suitable for: beginners, adults new to textiles and weaving You will leave with: finished woven paper artworks to take home Refreshments: Tea, coffee, cakes and biscuits provided. Please bring a packed lunch. What to wear: Comfortable clothing you don’t mind getting paint on, or an apron. Access: Please note this workshop takes place in the upper gallery, which is not wheelchair accessible. We apologise for any inconvenience. Max. 8 spaces All materials will be provided.
