Service Description
Sustainable Intaglio & Collagraph: Tetra Pak Printing with Evelyn Polk Date: Tuesday 5th May 2026 Time: Morning session from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm Price: £54 per person Join artist and educator Evelyn Polk for a creative printmaking workshop that gives new life to used packaging. In this fun, eco-conscious session you'll use recycled Tetra Pak® cartons (think juice or soup cartons) to create unique and richly textured prints through a combination of intaglio drypoint and collagraph techniques. Over the course of the workshop, Evelyn will guide you to: • Prepare your Tetra Pak plate by cutting, scoring, incising and peeling to build up or remove layers for different textures. • Experiment with mark-making using a variety of tools: drypoint needles, craft knives and other implements to create shallow incisions or bold relief. • Add chine-collé (thin layers of paper) to introduce colour, collage effects and depth in your compositions. • Ink the Tetra Pak “matrix” in an intaglio manner, so that recessed areas hold the ink, then carefully wipe the surface to prepare for printing. • Use a press (or alternative printing setup) to transfer your design onto paper, exploring editions, texture and tonal variation. This process is a wonderfully sustainable alternative to traditional printmaking, using materials that would otherwise be discarded, and it avoids more hazardous or chemical-heavy methods. What to Bring: • One or two clean, emptied Tetra Pak cartons — ideally the ones with the silver foil lining on the inside. • If your cartons have printed images or packaging graphics that you want to incorporate into your design, bring them along! • Sketches, inspiration or reference images (if you have something in mind). • Apron or clothes that can get messy. Level & Materials: • Open to all levels, from beginners to more experienced printmakers. • All inks, tools, and printmaking supplies will be provided — participants only need to bring their cartons and ideas. Outcomes: By the end of the workshop, you will have produced your own small edition of tetrapak prints, experimented with layered textures and colour and gained confidence in combining intaglio and collagraph techniques on an unconventional, eco-friendly surface. Accessibility: Please note that the workshop is held in our upper gallery, which unfortunately is not accessible for wheelchair users. Spaces are limited, so early booking is highly recommended to secure your place!
