Getting to know your Camera. A workshop with the professional photographer Jackie Mellor Date: Tuesday 18th June 2024 Time: 10.00am - 3.00pm (with a break for lunch) What to bring: Your camera or mobile phone fully charged Your camera manual A tripod An empty memory card. A laptop to view your photographs and a card reader or lead to upload your images (If you have one) Examples of photographs that you have taken that you are proud of Three objects that say something about you A packed lunch What to wear: Comfortable clothing, walking shoes and a waterproof jacket. OUTLINE: It is possible to see a huge difference in your photographs by ‘learning how to see’ applying some rules of composition. However, if you are relying on your automatic settings on your camera, you may be frustrated with out-of-focus images, camera blur, or images which are too bright or too dark. You might be wondering how some photographers create photographs which are dreamy and romantic or how they capture movement or freeze action. To fully unlock your creativity and add extra wow factor to your photographs, it is important to get off of auto and to understand how to take control of your manual settings. In this class you will take a closer look at your camera settings and understand which settings to use for different subjects. PROCESS: 10.00am - 12.00noon In the morning, we will take time to explore your camera’s settings and understand what they do and how to use them for different types of subjects. You will gain an understanding of: • Shutter Speed, Aperture ISO and how they work together to create a balanced exposure using the exposure triangle. • Depth of field • White balance • Metering modes • Drive modes • Focusing modes. Break 12.00 - 1.00pm - Lunch (Please bring your own packed lunch) 1.00pm - 3.00pm In the afternoon you will work through a series of fun exercises working to put these principles into action and at the end of the day we will review some of the photographs taken. You will be invited to practice what you have learnt and share your work after the session within the Mill Tye Shoot and Share Facebook photography group where you will meet like-minded people and receive further encouragement, inspiration and support with your photography. Who is the Class for? • Beginner Photographers, who would like to stop using auto and get a better understanding of their camera. Age 16+ • People who love taking photos but want to develop their creative vision
