Hand Woven Landscapes: From Mill to Loom

Summer Artist in Residence, Mill Tye Gallery

July — August 2026

Hand Woven Landscapes presents new work by textile designer Helena Powell, developed for and during her Summer Artist in Residence. Drawing on landscape as an abstract idea, the exhibition explores rhythm, colour and structure through silk weaving, stripes and layered blocks of hand-painted colour, using principles from traditional Huguenot jacquard silk weaving. Visitors are invited to encounter both finished works and works in progress, while also having opportunities to engage directly with weaving and gain insight into the slow, methodical process of contemporary hand weaving.
