About the event

Landscapes

"A Fusion of Paint and Stitch"

Explore a captivating exhibition that unites a diverse range of landscape themes through an array of painting and stitching techniques. This showcase celebrates the beauty and complexity of natural scenes, combining traditional and contemporary methods to bring each piece to life. From serene vistas to abstract interpretations, the collection highlights the creative synergy of paint and thread, offering a unique visual and tactile experience.

The Mill Tye Gallery is delighted to announce the upcoming exhibition Landscapes, featuring the works of Bruce and Dorothy Ronaldson.

Running from the 5th to the 27th of October, this unique display brings together two different approaches to interpreting the natural world, from traditional and experimental painting techniques to intricately stitched textile landscapes.

Bruce Ronaldson, a versatile artist working in oil, watercolour, and egg tempera, showcases his collection of landscapes, which draw inspiration from local scenes as well as his travels through Cornwall and the South of France. His distinctive brushwork and creative distortion of perspective lend each piece an intriguing and whimsical touch.

Meanwhile, Dorothy Ronaldson’s textile art offers a tactile exploration of landscape through the medium of stitch. Her work features hand and machine embroidery, fabric, paper, and collage, each textured to reflect the depth and detail of the natural environment. Her techniques bring a fresh dimension to traditional landscape art, blending creativity with craftsmanship.

In an interview, Dorothy Ronaldson shared the couple’s long-standing ambition to hold a joint exhibition, noting, “As a married couple, we've wanted to share our work together for some time, even though our mediums are quite different. Bruce paints landscapes with oil, watercolour, and egg tempera, often with quirky perspectives, while I interpret landscapes through collage and stitch. It's going to be exciting to see how people react to the way we each portray landscapes in our own styles.”

Visitors will have the chance to meet both artists, as Bruce and Dorothy will be present at the gallery most weekends throughout the exhibition. They look forward to discussing their work and demonstrating parts of their creative process.

Preview and meet the artists between 12 noon and 6pm on Saturday 5th October.

Join us for drinks and nibbles. Please RSVP to register your interest.

The exhibition continues until Sunday 27th October 2024.
