Helen Maxfield
Lino-cut Printmaker | Suffolk
An Art Practice and Theory graduate from Lancaster University, Helen Maxfield creates beautifully composed linocut prints inspired by the landscapes of Suffolk and the East Anglian coast. Working from her studio in Suffolk, Helen’s prints capture the rhythms, textures, and movement of the countryside through her distinctive graphic style.
Helen’s work is characterised by a strong sense of design and an expressive use of mark-making. She enjoys exploring the possibilities of the linocut medium — layering colour, pattern, and texture to reimagine the familiar scenes of fields, marshes and coastal skies. Each print balances observation with abstraction, celebrating both the landscape’s quiet beauty and its dynamic energy.
Since first exhibiting at Mill Tye Gallery in 2024 as part of the 12PM (Twelve Printmakers) exhibition, Helen’s work has become a firm favourite among visitors and collectors alike. Her prints now feature regularly in our seasonal printmaker exhibitions in the ground floor gallery, where her bold compositions and rich colour palettes continue to attract admiration.
Alongside her studio practice, Helen teaches lino print workshops across East Anglia, sharing her knowledge of cutting techniques, layering processes and creative experimentation with others.
