Louisa Raven Glass
Louisa Raven creates a refined collection of hand-blown lead crystal designed for everyday use. Her work brings together clean, timeless design with a strong emphasis on material, process and function.
Working with recycled crystal, Louisa produces carafes, drinking glasses, vases and gift sets that are both practical and sculptural. Each piece is individually made, carrying subtle variations that reflect the immediacy of the glassblowing process and the hand of the maker.
At the centre of her collection is the Fluidity Carafe, a signature design influenced by Mid-Century Scandinavian glass. Formed while the glass is still semi-molten, the body is gently compressed by hand to create a soft, ergonomic indentation. This distinctive detail establishes a direct relationship between object and user, combining visual simplicity with intuitive function.
The carafe’s name reflects the behaviour of molten glass as it stretches and settles under heat and gravity. Its smooth, tapering form captures this moment of transition, highlighting the clarity and quality of the material.
Louisa’s wider range is presented in a palette of natural tones, inspired by forests and mountainous landscapes. These considered colours complement the purity of form and enhance the quiet elegance of each piece.
After more than twenty years away from the medium, Louisa returned to glassblowing in recent years, bringing renewed focus to her practice. She works using traditional tools and techniques, relying on heat, gravity and centrifugal force to shape each piece—methods that have remained largely unchanged for centuries.
Louisa trained at the International Glass Centre, Brierley Hill, and Manchester Metropolitan University, before graduating from the Royal College of Art in 1997.
Her work reflects a balance of precision and spontaneity, resulting in pieces that are both functional and enduring.
