Sue Marsdon and Edward Bawden Cat

Sue Marsdon at the Mill Tye Gallery

Sue joined the CO10 Collective in the autumn last year and currently lives and works in the centre of Sudbury.

In contrast to her sensitive life drawings, Sue is displaying a rag rug which is based on the print “Play with me” by Edward Bawden, father of Richard Bawden. The original black and white print of the cat can be seen in The Fry Gallery in Saffron Walden.

Over the years, Sue has made several rag rugs based on images by the Great Bardfield group of artists. She is particularly drawn to the graphic nature of the designs and loves the tradition of rag rugs being made from pre-loved clothes. Sue has enjoyed the process of recycling clothing that she fondly remembers belonging to her Mum.

If you like rag rug making or have a rag rug that has been passed down in your family, please feel free to call in to the Mill Tye Gallery with it for Sue to see on Saturday’s in May or on May bank holiday Monday between 11.00am - 4.00pm.
