A Flower’s Tale: Painting Still Life in Oils Discover the Joy of Still Life with Halima Washington-Dixon A Hands-On Oil Painting Workshop Date: Thursday 12th November Time: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM Inspired by Halima Washington-Dixon’s exhibition A Flower’s Tale, this hands-on workshop invites you to explore the expressive world of still-life painting in oils. Working from beautiful, specially arranged flowers, Halima will guide you through the process of creating a vibrant still-life painting, exploring colour, composition, light and expressive brushwork. With the opportunity to work directly from flowers in front of you, you’ll be encouraged to look closely at their individual character, shape and movement, and discover the story within your arrangement. Halima will demonstrate how to build a painting through bold colour and confident mark-making, encouraging you to experiment with expressive brushwork and develop your own individual response to the subject. There will be actual flower arrangements available to paint, although participants are also welcome to bring their own flower reference photographs if they wish. Whether you are new to oil painting or an experienced painter looking to loosen up your approach, this workshop is an opportunity to slow down, look closely and enjoy the rich, tactile qualities of working in oils. What’s provided: A gessoed 10 x 10 inch wood panel, giving you plenty of space to explore your composition and include a generous arrangement of flowers. What to bring: • A selection of oil paint brushes, including small brushes for sketching and medium-sized brushes for painting • Rounded-tip palette knife • Disposable painting palette • Paper towels or rags • Old glass jar with lid (for solvent) • Odourless or natural solvent (for oil paint) • Winsor & Newton Liquin Original (75ml) OR Winsor & Newton Liquin Impasto Medium (60ml – NOT ARTISAN) • Portable or tabletop easel (optional) • Your own flower reference photograph (optional) Oil colours to bring: • Titanium White • Lemon Yellow • Cadmium Yellow (or equivalent) • Cadmium Red Light (or equivalent) • Alizarin Crimson • Ultramarine Blue • Viridian • Burnt Umber Optional colours for flowers: • Permanent Rose • Quinacridone Magenta • Magenta • A Violet of your choice. Feel free to bring any other favourite colours you’d like to work with. Refreshments: Tea, coffee, cakes and biscuits will be provided. What to wear: Comfortable clothes or an apron—some painting involved!

Cancellation Policy
Cancellation Policy Course Bookings: • Places on our courses are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis upon receipt of payment. • Submitting an application form without payment does not reserve a place on the course. • To guarantee a place, all applicants must pay in full after submitting their form. Refunds and Cancellations: • Cancellations up to 7 days before the course start date: Participants may cancel and receive a refund, subject to a £25 cancellation fee. • Cancellations within 72 hours of the course start date: Refunds will not be issued. • Non-attendance: No refunds will be provided for students who do not attend due to illness, personal commitments, or professional obligations. Course Changes or Cancellations by Mill Tye Gallery: • Mill Tye Gallery reserves the right to cancel or amend courses due to unforeseen circumstances. In such cases, participants will be offered an alternative date or a full refund. Safety: • Prohibited items: Aerosol fixative sprays, smoking, mobile phones, radios, and personal stereos are not permitted during workshops. • Personal belongings: Participants are responsible for their belongings at all times. The gallery cannot accept liability for loss or damage to personal items. • Participants must take all work and belongings with them at the end of the class.
