Service Description

Autumn Textile Art Workshop with Dorothy Ronaldson. Contemporary composition in paint, appliqué, needle weaving and beading. Suitable for those fairly new to stitch and those with more experience. Date: Thursday 12th September Time: 10:00 am to 3:00 pm We provide tea, coffee, cakes and biscuits, but please bring a packed lunch. About Dorothy’s workshop Something a little more contemporary. Paint, appliqué, knots, needle weaving, fabric manipulation and beading are combined to create a textured, abstract composition.  The overall design will evolve in an organic way based on your initial colour and shape choices. There will be lots of examples to inform your choices and all stages and stitches will be demonstrated. Mounting and framing options will also be discussed.  The following materials will be provided for you:  - Painted and unpainted silk, linen and muslin  - Woven and non woven iron on interfacing  - Lumiere and dyna flow fabric paints  - Hand embroidery threads. Including perle, stranded, metallic and textured  - Bead selection  All painting equipment will be provided. You need to bring:  - Fabric and thread cutting scissors  - Hand embroidery needles Crewel needles and tapestry needles. Medium to larger sizes. Small size crewel needle for beading.  - Dorothy will be bringing a selection of beads including lentil beads but if you have any unusual beads or buttons you would like to include feel free to bring them along.  Flat beads are particularly useful.  These items can be sourced from specialist stockists such as Lingards in Sudbury or various online sources. This workshop is an introduction to a new and exciting medium, which hopefully will inspire you to explore the further possibilities at home. What to wear Comfortable clothing that you would not mind getting paint on or an apron. Access The course takes place in the upper gallery which is not suitable for wheelchair access. SPACES ARE LIMITED ON OUR COURSES. BOOKING IS ESSENTIAL.

Cancellation Policy

Places on our courses will be allocated on a first come, first served basis once payment has been received. Completing the application form without also making payment does not reserve a place on the course. All applicants must pay after submitting their form to guarantee a place on their chosen course. Refunds and Cancellations Cancellations are permitted up to one week before the start of a course, subject to a £25 cancellation fee. Refunds will not be made for cancellations less than 72 hours before the start of a course. Students who do not attend due to illness, personal or professional commitments do not have the right to a refund. Access The workshop takes place in the upper gallery which is not suitable for wheel chair access. Please notify the Gallery if participants have physical disabilities or special learning needs. The use of mobile telephones, radios, personal stereos is not allowed. Please take care of your belongings at all times and never leave valuables unattended. We regret that we cannot be held responsible for the loss of participants’ belongings. Participants must make sure that they take all work and belongings away at the end of the class.
