Mav Duo Creative Portraiture - Live Brief A workshop with the professional photographer Jackie Mellor Date: Tuesday 9th July Time: 10.00am - 3.00pm Number of Participants: Limited to only 5 people. What to bring: Your Digital SLR or mirrorless camera fully charged Your camera manual A tripod An empty memory card A laptop to view your photographs and a card reader or lead to upload your images (If you have one) A packed lunch What to wear: Comfortable clothing and light weight shoes. OUTLINE: Have you ever worked on a live brief? This workshop will introduce you to a variety of creative portraiture techniques which will result in a collection of photos that can be used by the Mav Duo for their personal and professional portfolios. This workshop with Jackie and the Mav Duo will introduce you to a live creative brief as well as inspirational images by leading photographers and help you to explore some of the theories and techniques that they use to create dramatic and engaging images. You will then get the chance to put theory into practice in a live shoot with Alexandra and Oscar as they play their instruments in the gallery. In the afternoon the group will review the photos and Jackie will go through some editing techniques that she uses to enhance the images. Following on the from the session Jackie will edit a collection of photos from the workshop to share with the artists for their promotions and portfolio. Photos used in this way will be credited to the workshop participant as the photographer. This course is focused on helping you to: • Gain experience of working on a live brief • Consider what makes a great portrait • Consider how you see your subject and the world around you through fresh eyes • Consider, contexts and locations that help to tell a story • Use lenses and camera settings to create images you don’t see with your naked eye • Learn to bring out emotions and expressions in your subject by the way that you communicate with them • Use ‘Super Feel’ methods, with your subject to capture expressions from ‘laugh-out- loud’ to ‘warm and fuzzy’ and ‘deep and meaningful’ • Explore using flash and natural lighting to add to your subjects back story as well as add drama and atmosphere Who is the class for? • Photographers that have already attended Jackie’s Introduction to Photography • Photographers who would like to explore the subject of portraiture • Photographers who would like to gain experience of working on a live brief

Cancellation Policy

Places on our courses will be allocated on a first come, first served basis once payment has been received. Completing the application form without also making payment does not reserve a place on the course. All applicants must pay after submitting their form to guarantee a place on their chosen course. Refunds and Cancellations Cancellations are permitted up to one week before the start of a course, subject to a £25 cancellation fee. Refunds will not be made for cancellations less than 72 hours before the start of a course. Students who do not attend due to illness, personal or professional commitments do not have the right to a refund. Access The workshop takes place in the upper gallery which is not suitable for wheel chair access. Please notify the Gallery if participants have physical disabilities or special learning needs. The use of mobile telephones, radios, personal stereos is not allowed. Please take care of your belongings at all times and never leave valuables unattended. We regret that we cannot be held responsible for the loss of participants’ belongings. Participants must make sure that they take all work and belongings away at the end of the class.
