Service Description
The Adoration of the Magi Join us for a magical day of art, history and textile creativity inspired by one of the most richly depicted stories in Western art. This special end-of-year workshop combines an inspiring illustrated presentation with a hands-on textile project, exploring the splendour, symbolism and sumptuous decoration associated with the Three Kings and their sacred gifts. Date: Tuesday 15th December 2026 Time: 10.00am – 3.00pm Price: £75 per person (includes all materials, Sudbury silk and a beautiful wooden box) Morning Presentation The day begins with a richly illustrated presentation by art historian Bruce Ronaldson. Our journey starts amongst the glittering mosaics of Ravenna, dating from the 6th century, before travelling into the Renaissance to explore paintings filled with sumptuous textiles, exotic fashions, jewelled caskets and sacred gifts. Who were the Three Kings? What do their gifts symbolise? And where do the famous three ships fit into the story? A fascinating blend of history, symbolism, folklore and flamboyant couture. Afternoon Workshop Inspired by the morning's presentation, textile artist and tutor Dorothy Ronaldson will guide you in creating a richly embellished keepsake casket inspired by the treasures of the Magi. Using luxurious Sudbury silk as your foundation, you will transform a wooden box into a miniature jewel-like treasure, adorned with metallic surfaces, intricate stitching and decorative embellishments. Materials Included: - Wooden box - Sudbury silk - Transfer foils - Lace - Beads and trinkets - Wire - Metallic threads - Felt - Fabric glue Please bring scissors suitable for cutting fabric and thread.
