Helena Powell: Artist in Residence

Over the past two months, we have enjoyed welcoming artist Helena Powell to Mill Tye Gallery as our Artist in Residence.

During her residency, Helena has been developing her weaving practice, experimenting with techniques and materials, and working in the gallery where visitors have been able to see her process first-hand.

We are pleased to share this short video, made by Jacqueline Mellor, capturing Helena during the final days of her residency.

Helena works intuitively with colour, texture and structure, and has also found that listening to music while she weaves helps to create a natural rhythm to the work.

The residency has been an opportunity for Helena to explore new ideas while sharing her practice with visitors and responding to the gallery environment.
