SEPTEMBER ART TRAIL

23rd and 24th September 2023

‘Artists and makers give you a taste of their talent’

It’s that time again, when 14 artists, 1 group and 1 art gallery present a taste of the artistic talent we have here in Sudbury. There’s a difference this year, however. In previous years we have shown our work in our individual studios, which has meant a long, often exhausting trek around town – even though we are all within walking distance of the Market Hill.

This year we’ve made it easier. Most of this year’s artists have divided themselves into small groups, or ‘hubs’, so you’ll be able to view three or four artists’ work in one place. And fear not: the three artists who have chosen to exhibit in their own studios are all within a few minutes walking distance of each other. Then there’s the art group, C’Art, based centrally at the Christopher Centre, and the Mill Tye Gallery at Great Cornard, which specialises in exciting, sometimes unusual, screen and lino-cut prints and is a peaceful riverside stroll away.

The work you’ll see will vary from precise architectural drawing through pastel landscapes, vibrant abstracts, and delicate pencil work. There will be bright collages, moody night-time paintings, pottery which isn’t only pots, and printmaking which continues to push those boundaries. You might even catch a demonstration of chair-caning by one of our members, who uses traditional methods and locally-harvested rushes.

All the studios are open on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th September between 10.30am and 4.30pm except for C’Art which is open on Saturday only. Our leaflets, which tell you all about the Sudbury Art Collective and the location of each artist, are available from the main public buildings, the market stalls, many central shops, and you may even find one popped through your door. We have improved the location map and you should find it easier to follow.

The artists are ready to welcome you, show you their work, how it’s done and what has inspired them. And if you’d like to buy anything, or you are looking for that special present, they won’t say no. Remember, Christmas isn’t far away!
